Location
Engawa Gulbenkian GardenThe concert highlights samba and other Afro-Brazilian rhythms originating from samba de terreiro, with the sound of hand drums (Ilú and Conga) present in most of the arrangements created for each song, bringing an original sound identity without forgetting its roots.
The group is formed by multi-instrumentalist women from different parts of Brazil and the world who bring their own characteristics and influences, resulting in a unique performance full of strength, but at the same time lightness, without neglecting the activism and resistance of women who still fight for more representation within samba.
This event is part of the complementary programme for the exhibition complexo brasil, curated by José Miguel Wisnik, Guilherme Wisnik and Milena Britto.

Coletivo Gira
Coletivo Gira is a movement created by immigrant women in Portugal that aims to promote Afro-Brazilian culture and gender equality through samba. Founded in 2021 in Lisbon, Coletivo Gira is the result of an initiative by four immigrant women with different life stories, backgrounds, origins, and professions. However, they share a love for samba and their latent roots.
