This workshop, with 4 sessions, promises to take you on a brief journey into the world of Brazilian percussion through the pandeiro, an instrument of Arabic origin that conquered Brazil and played a comprehensive role in the creation of Brazilian popular music.

This session, led by Juninho Ibituruna, is an opportunity for participants to experience the infectious rhythms played by Bloco Pandeiro and take part in the carnival parade CARAVANSERÁ on 14 February, a result of artist Gustavo Ciríaco’s residency at Centro de Arte Moderna Gulbenkian.

This event is part of the complementary programme for the complexo brasil exhibition, curated by José Miguel Wisnik, Guilherme Wisnik and Milena Britto.

Participants must bring their own instruments (pandeiro, tambourine, agogô, caixa de folia, rattle) to the sessions.

The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation reserves the right to collect and keep records of images, sounds and voice for the diffusion and preservation of the memory of its cultural and artistic activity. For further information, please contact us through the Information Request form.
