Auditorium 3 Calouste Gulbenkian FoundationRaí, former player for São Paulo Futebol Clube and the Brazilian national team, with whom he won the World Cup, as well as an idol at PSG, completed a master’s degree in Public Policy at Sciences Po in Paris and specialised in the education of children and young people through sport. He runs the Gol de Letra Foundation.
José Miguel Wisnik, professor, musician and essayist, author of the book Veneno remédio – O futebol e o Brasil.
Both approach football as a ‘total social factt and reflect on the relationships between football, education, culture and politics, emphasising the deep intertwining of this sport in Brazilian society, pointing out dichotomies, magic and vital forces of belonging.
This event is part of the complementary programme for the exhibition complexo brasil, curated by José Miguel Wisnik, Guilherme Wisnik and Milena Britto.
Biographies

José Miguel Wisnik
Professor at the University of São Paulo, writer and musician. Author of O som e o sentido – Uma outra história das músicas (1989), Veneno remédio – o futebol e o Brasil (2008) and Maquinação do mundo – Drummond e a mineração (2018). He wrote songs and soundtracks for film, theatre and dance. He was awarded the Jabuti Prize for Literature (1978, 2009), the Kikito Prize at the Gramado Film Festival (1989), the Paulista Association of Art Critics Prize (1991, 1993, 1995), the Order of Cultural Merit (2009) and the National Library Foundation Literary Prize (2019).

Raí
Raí Souza Vieira de Oliveira is a former Brazilian footballer. One of the most talented players of his generation, he rose to prominence at São Paulo FC, where he won several titles. He played for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), winning the French championship, and represented Brazil at the 1994 World Cup. Off the pitch, he is known for his humanitarian work, co-founding the Gol de Letra Foundation, which supports the education of vulnerable young people in Brazil. He is currently an ambassador for Paris FC, a partner at Raí+Velasco, and in 2024, he completed a master’s degree in Public Policy at Sciences Po.
