The relationship between mother and daughter takes place in a conflictual context, in an extremely patriarchal northeastern interior and in a culture divided between the preservation of its ancestral values and the absorption of the dynamics and strains of a globalised civilisation system.
Azira’I chooses Zahy as heir to the gifts of shamanism and communication with the Mairas, while at the same time taking out on her daughter the frustrations of living in a colonial and oppressive environment.
This event is part of the complementary programme for the exhibition complexo brasil, curated by José Miguel Wisnik, Guilherme Wisnik and Milena Britto.
In Portuguese and Ze’eng eté, with English subtitles.
