Luca Argel
A Portuguese-Brazilian musician, poet and writer who has built a unique career spanning music and literature, marked by artistic crossover and social commitment. Based in Portugal for over a decade, he has become one of the most important voices in contemporary Portuguese-language music. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with artists such as Ana Deus, Filipe Sambado, A Garota Não, DJ Keso and the Coro de Cante Alentejano do Orfeão Universitário do Porto. He is also the author of several books of poetry and essays, including Meigo Energúmeno – notas para uma leitura antimachista de Vinicius de Moraes.
The show revives songs and narratives that have been left out of official historiography, revealing how popular music was, and continues to be, a powerful instrument of recording and protest. A project that reconstructs the history of Brazil through samba – not only as a musical expression, but as a political act and tool of resistance.
Through voice, guitar and words, the artist takes us on a journey through the collective memories that Brazilian popular song has helped to preserve, revealing voices, struggles and episodes that have been left out of official historiography.
Combining narrative, poetry and music, Luca Argel transforms the stage into a space for listening and reflection, where samba asserts itself as a living chronicle of a country in constant transformation.
This event is part of the complementary programme of the exhibition complexo brasil, curated by José Miguel Wisnik, Guilherme Wisnik and Milena Britto.
