Matthieu Ehrlacher

Event Slider

At a conference in 2012, Peggy Phelan stated that, “in all of Beckett’s plays, the difficulty of moving – physically, amorously, philosophically – forms the dramatic kernel of the plot.” Matthieu Ehrlacher’s Cocoon immediately establishes a relationship of immobility and expectation between the set and the body, which together pose the question: what can happen now? The body embodies the set while also being inside it, seeking a path to amplification in the slightest movement. The weirdness of this object that moves, talks, stops, looks, and listens, guides the audience’s gaze through an ever-changing voyage filled with details and levels of intensity. An animate and inanimate object, with a personality, through which a relationship is established between the absurdity of an impossible situation and the confrontation of mechanisms of action in theatre.
