Hackathon

  • WHAT ABOUT FOOD DURING THE HACKATHON?

     

    This challenge can only be successfully overcome if we all are well fed. Meals are provided for the entire duration of the event.

  • WHAT SHOULD I BRING FOR THE HACKATHON?

    Teams will have access to Wi-Fi, devices and technologies that will support the development of projects. We cannot provide computers to everyone, you must bring your own and other equipment you’ll need.

     

  • WHO ARE THE MENTORS?

    Professionals with a deep knowledge on the different topics and experts with technical background who will help unlock technological challenges.

     

  • THE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OF THE PROJECT DEVELOPED DURING THE HACKATHON BELONGS TO WHOM?

    Please refer to section F of the Terms and Conditions.

     

  • WHAT ARE THE EVALUATION CRITERIA TO WIN?

    Does the solution face one of the challenges associated with these challenges? Is the solution technological and innovative? The prototype is functional? Does the team have the capacity of taking the project further? There’s a possible business model for the product?

     

  • I CAN’T STAY DURING THE WHOLE AGENDA. CAN I STILL BE PART OF THE EVENT?

    All the participants can get out the venue of the event if they wish. They are not obliged to stay during all the time and can leave for rest between 00h of Saturday and 8am of Sunday.

  • WHAT SHOULD I BUILD?

    Tech solutions, hardware or software, developed to solve problems related to the challenges we presented above.
 You can develop apps for mobile, web, desktop, a game, a device… The limit is in your imagination!

  • DO I NEED AN IDEA TO PARTICIPATE?

    That’s the ideal scenario. If your team doesn’t have an idea when applying, you’ll have to find one to work on during the event.

  • I ALREADY HAVE A TECHNOLOGY. CAN I PARTICIPATE?

    Teams can have a technology developed, but the project cannot have been invested, participate in an acceleration program or have received a financial award to the date of the event.

  • I DON’T HAVE A TEAM. CAN I PARTICIPATE?

    Only teams with between 3 to 6 elements can participate in Hack For Good Gulbenkian. If you don’t have a team, you can apply, but you must find your team before the event. After applying, you’ll be invited to join a Facebook group where you’ll find your team.

  • WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

    We are inviting makers – bold people that are not afraid of a good challenge. Hack For Good Gulbenkian is intended for programmers, managers, creative people, and other people, who want and have the ability to develop technological solutions to solve the challenges we present. The teams should preferably be multidisciplinary.

  • REGISTERING FOR HACKATHON MEANS I’M REGISTERING FOR THE WHOLE PROCESS (Hackathon, Bootcamp and Web Summit)?

    No. You still have to register for the WARM-UP here. After the WARM-UP and the Hackathon, the process is selective. Only the best teams from the Hackathon, will be chosen and invites to join the Bootcamp. At the end of the Bootcamp, only the teams that showcased the biggest evolution and improvement will be selected to be present at the Web Summit.

  • WHAT IS HACK FOR GOOD?

    A Hackathon, a development marathon organized by Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation to foster the development of technological solutions to real social challenges.

Web Summit

  • IF SELECTED, WILL I HAVE MY OWN BOOTH AT THE WEB SUMMIT?

    No. All teams selected, from the participation on the Bootcamp, will be presenting their ideas at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation / HackForGood booth.

  • IF I’M SELECTED TO THE BOOTCAMP, WILL I BE AT THE WEB SUMMIT?

    No. Being selected to the Bootcamp gives you the possibility of being chosen to be at the Web Summit, but it is not guaranteed, since it will depend on the jury’s final decision. You’ll have to go through the Bootcamp, evolve your project and at the end, be selected to be at the Web Summit.

  • WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE BOOTCAMP?

    The best teams, chosen by the jury, will be invited to be at the Web Summit.

Bootcamp

  • IF I JOIN THE HACKATHON, CAN I JOIN THE BOOTCAMP?

    Not necessarily. Only the best teams of the Hackathon will be chosen and invited to join the Bootcamp.  

Warm-Up

  • I HAVEN’T BEEN AT THE WARM-UP, CAN I REGISTER FOR THE HACKATHON?

    Yes you can and you have to. The participation in both the Warm-Up and the Hackathon are independent. You must register for them independently.

  • IF I AM REGISTERED FOR THE WARM-UP AM I REGISTERED FOR THE WHOLE PROCESS?

    No. If you decide to participate in the Hackathon, then you should register directly for the Hackathon here. After the Hackathon, the rest of the process is selective and not accessible through registrations.

  • DO I NEED TO REGISTER FOR THE WARM-UP?

    Yes, you do. Here’s the link.

  • DO I NEED TO BE AT THE WARM-UP TO REGISTER FOR THE HACKATHON?

    No. Even though it can help you a lot structuring your ideas and prepare for the Hackathon, you can go and register for the Hackathon without having been to the Warm-Up.
