Studio Centro de Arte Moderna GulbenkianIn this dystopian episode, the year is 2174 and Portugal, divided into several factions, is embroiled in a civil war. Shakari, a pregnant mixed-race former soldier, infiltrates one of the factions, fighting to survive and to save her child.
Is this episode more of a premonition than a vision of an alternative future?
This will be the starting point for a conversation about the Afrofuturist movement between the director, Nádia Silva, the actress who plays Shakari, and Marco Mendonça, director, playwright and creator of works such as Black Face and Reparations, Baby!. The talk will be moderated by Marta Lança.
About the series
Novas Narrativas de Caça is an anthology comprising seven independent stories, linked by their theme – the search for identity and belonging among Black characters, Portuguese people of African descent who struggle to find their place in a society that often ignores and oppresses them. “Until lions tell their own stories, hunters will always be the heroes of the hunting narratives.”
