Isaac is wrongly accused of stealing from the shop where he works, and this incident sets off a chain of events that will change the course of his life.
From the story of Isaac, main character of this episode, Diogo “Gazella” Carvalho invites us to reflect on the anonymity to which the suburbs are subjected and on the ‘social lift’ that exists in those areas – or the lack thereof.
Are there places that do us a disservice from the outset? Or people who are denied certain opportunities?
The director will discuss these questions with actor Mavá José, who plays Isaac, and António Brito Guterres, socia worker with a post-grad and PhD in Urban Studies, which will help us to better understand the map of Lisbon’s suburbs – the landscape of this and other stories. The talk will be moderated by journalist Vitor Belanciano.
About the series
Novas Narrativas de Caça is an anthology comprising seven independent stories, linked by their theme — the search for identity and belonging among Black characters, Portuguese people of African descent who struggle to find their place in a society that often ignores and oppresses them. “Until lions tell their own stories, hunters will always be the heroes of the hunting narratives.”
