The Tubarões are traveling from Cape Verde to the Gulbenkian for an unmissable concert in the Grand Auditorium, marking the opening of the final day of the Summer Garden. The performance will be followed by a conversation between the band and curator Dino D’Santiago.

Born in 1969 in Praia, the musical group Os Tubarões has brought together, over the years, different musicians, generations, and styles, keeping pace with international musical trends and the culture of Cape Verde.

The period following the 25 April 1974 contributed for the recognition of the group’s contribution, given the pivotal role it played in promoting the ideals of Cape Verdean identity and in mobilising the population in support of national independence.

International recognition only occurred after they released the LP Tabanka, which took them to stages all over Africa, Europe, America and Asia. After a two-decade hiatus, the group got back together in 2015, having performed in several international stages.
