SPIN targets children ages 4 to 12 years who have been removed from their families and are residents in the district of Évora. These children, identified by a hospital team of child psychiatrists, have experienced severe trauma as victims of abuse and/or extreme negligence. These children will be accompanied for a period of four years by a team of child psychiatrists and psychologists who will help them manage their traumas.

The methodology is also being applied in other European countries and American states, such as Australia and New Zeeland. SPIN has already been recognized as holding the potential to create an integrated European network that would permit the international exchange of similar experiences.

At the beginning of this year, the project’s technical team went to Oxford to formulate the project’s policy. Professor Richard Rose, one of the creators of the methodology who oversees the implementation of the project in various countries, will supervise the technical team for the project.
