Of Haitian descent, the French pianist Célimène Daudet created the Haiti Piano Project in 2017 when, wanting to perform a concert in her mother’s native country, he realised that, due to the severe natural events that had struck the country in recent years, no concert-worthy piano had survived. As such, while collecting funds to purchase an instrument, she set up a festival in Haiti dedicated to the piano. It was on this occasion that she discovered the work of Justin Elie, a local composer, which led her to deepen her research and to create a concert in which she interprets pieces by the Haitians Justin Elie and Ludovic Lamothe, alongside references for these authors, such as Debussy and Chopin.
