Soul and R&B take to the stage of the Grand Auditorium in the voice of New Max, who opens the second Sunday of the Summer Garden with a solo concert.

Born in Leça da Palmeira, New Max (aka Tiago Novo) is recognised by the general public for his work as a musician, composer and producer and as one half of Expensive Soul, a band with which he has performed on hundreds of stages in Portugal.

One of the driving forces behind soul and R&B music in Portugal, he has produced names such as Marta Ren & The Goovelvets, GNR, Salto, NBC, Filipe Gonçalves, Bezegol, Bob Da Rage Sense and Dj Link.

He released his first solo album, Phalasolo, in 2009. He is currently producing what will be his second album of originals.

About the concerts

This year, the Summer Garden invites us to embark on a journey of sound where the soul dances and the body recognises itself.
From Fado to Funaná, from Semba to Gumbé, from Axé to Mbalax, passing through the eternity of Soul Music — each rhythm will be a compass and each song a territory.

To the sound of these ancestral and contemporary beats, we will land in the living imagination of countries such as Senegal, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Angola, Brazil and Portugal.
Places where time becomes a drum and memory is sung with eyes closed.

A true celebration of what unites us: the pulse of freedom that resists, persists and insists on being a party.
