Hip hop will take over the Open-Air Amphitheatre with a Breaking Battle organised by OU.kupa, in collaboration with Bboy Mucha.

The Block Party Breaking Battle celebrates Breaking and urban culture, strengthening community ties.

Inspired by traditional block parties street parties, which gained popularity in the 1970s in the USA, especially within the Hip Hop community , will transform the Gulbenkian into a vibrant stage for artistic expression, with battles and cyphers.

About OU.kupa

OU.kupa is a festival-celebration of urban dance cultures – Street, Clubbing and Ballroom, which encompasses artistic creation, presentation of premieres, thought and research. Created by Piny, it celebrates Other dance histories, supporting creators and giving visibility to languages from non-formal contexts. The second edition of the festival will take place in three different venues. In the Summer Garden, on 29 June and 5 July, there will be two battles dedicated to Breaking and celebrating Krump, Funky styles, House and Hip Hop. At the Teatro do Bairro Alto, between 2 and 13 July, there will be six new creations, an exhibition, training sessions with DJ sets and three talks. Finally, Casa Independente celebrates Ballroom culture on 12 July with Ball Conto Preto.
