For the first time at the Summer Garden, Nara Couto takes us on a journey from Lisbon to Bahia in a concert that combines Brazilian and African rhythms.

Nara Couto began her artistic career as a dancer, working with artists such as Gilberto Gil, Margareth Menezes, Ivete Sangalo and Daniela Mercury. She began singing as a backing vocalist and was one of the co-founders of the Orquestra Afrosinfônica.

Her solo debut came in 2017 with the release of the single Linda e Preta, a true anthem celebrating female beauty in Brazil’s black communities. She has released two albums, Retinta (2022) and Ori (2024), and has collaborated with various Brazilian and African artists.

In addition to her recording work, Nara has been working on the projects ‘Outras Áfricas’, which aims to strengthen relations between Brazil and Africa through music, and ‘Águas’, a show that evokes the spirit of the waters and the cult of Iemanjá.

About the concerts

This year, the Summer Garden invites us to embark on a journey of sound where the soul dances and the body recognises itself.
From Fado to Funaná, from Semba to Gumbé, from Axé to Mbalax, passing through the eternity of Soul Music — each rhythm will be a compass and each song a territory.

To the sound of these ancestral and contemporary beats, we will land in the living imagination of countries such as Senegal, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Angola, Brazil and Portugal.
Places where time becomes a drum and memory is sung with eyes closed.

A true celebration of what unites us: the pulse of freedom that resists, persists and insists on being a party.
