As sociedades europeias atravessam um período de significativas mudanças estruturais. Se as causas são em grande medida conhecidas, já as consequências muito irão depender da nossa ação colectiva. Uma coisa é certa: quando mais esperarmos, mais disruptivo será o impacto nas condições de vida das populações. Tendo em conta este enquadramento, na conferência serão debatidos dois  temas: Demografia e Desigualdades: Desafios para a Coesão Social e ainda Crescimento Inclusivo: Opções políticas e o papel do Investimento Social.

14:30 – 15:45   Panel 1: The Demographic and Inequality Challenges to Social Cohesion

The way Europe addresses the pressing challenges resulting from demographic changes and inequality has a significant impact on social cohesion and political stability. This panel will discuss how Europe’s ageing population, compounded with migration pressures and rising inequalities, jeopardises existing economic and social paradigms. The panellists will analyse the implications of these challenges on social cohesion and assess the policy actions to safeguard and adapt the European model, including at local level.

This panel will explore the policy options available to cope with these challenges and discuss the role of social investment.
