In this award-winning documentary, Frederick Wiseman portrays the neighbourhood of Jackson Heights in Queens, New York, one of the most culturally diverse communities in the US, where 167 languages are spoken.

The documentary follows the daily life of the heterogeneous community of Jackson Heights – its businesses, community centres, religions and political, cultural and social life – and the conflict between maintaining the traditions of the immigrants’ countries of origin and the need to adapt to American customs.

Film in English, with Portuguese subtitles. This session includes an intermission.
