Recruitment and Career Development

At the IGC individuals are empowered to pursue original discovery-driven scientific questions in the life sciences, propelled by cutting-edge technology, in a cross-disciplinary, inclusive and collaborative environment.

Recruitment of Postdoctoral researchers is done in two ways: directly by the research labs or through the PONTE Postdoctoral Programme in Theoretical Quantitative Biology.

After a successful selection process and upon arrival, the Cicerone programme organised by the Postdoc Commitee (PDC) will match new postdocs with a more senior postdoc at the IGC, who will be available to answer to questions and help in the adaptation process to the IGC and the new environment. A PostDoc Booklet is also handled to the new postdocs with essential information on the more administrative workload to be done upon arrival to Portugal (for foreigners) and to the IGC.

The PDC along with the People Management Team organizes regular career development activities. Currently, a 2 and a half day workshop “Career Development for Postdocs” is taking place once every 1-2 years. In this workshop, postdocs will learn to identify their transferable skills and drivers, being guided to explore different career options and analyse which career paths might match their interests and skills. The workshop aims to enable participants to communicate their skills, goals and interests in an impactful way, and master the application process.
