The European Research Council (ERC) is the main funding body for research projects in Europe. It finances projects driven by researchers from all areas (life sciences, physical sciences and engineering, social sciences and humanities) that stand out for the most innovative and revolutionary ideas.
Since 2007, more than 9,000 projects have been funded by the ERC, out of more than 65,000 applications. The average success rate is 13%, leaving many brilliant projects out of funding, although the proposals are of a very high standard, and should be supported.
To face this challenge, the Oeiras City Council is supporting the Gulbenkian Collaborative Center of the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência financing ERC candidates from Oeiras Institutions who have submitted high-quality applications (selected for the second evaluation phase) to scholarships European Research Council (ERC), but who were unable to secure funds due to constraints in the ERC budget.
This funding will allow the continuation of the necessary research activities and the development of preliminary data for the improvement of a new proposal to be submitted to ERC financing schemes within 3 years.
The initiative is financed by the Oeiras City Council and coordinated by the Gulbenkian Collaborative Center of the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência.
