EMBO Workshop - Plant Calcium Signaling

Event Slider

About the Workshop

Plants are critically dependent on calcium signaling for many crucial physiological and developmental processes. Among others, calcium signaling is central to biotic/abiotic stress signaling, host-pathogen interaction, or symbiotic mycorrhization and nodulation. Calcium signaling is also involved in every aspect concerning stress and adaptation to climate change, turning the deep comprehension of its mechanistic basis into a compelling and urgent goal.

The field of plant calcium signaling came of age over the past few decades with the discovery and functional characterization of multiple novel channels and decoder protein families and new functional paradigms for their roles in plants. Many of these proteins and functions evolved specifically along the plant lineage and could not be deduced from animals.

With this workshop, we aim to consolidate a strong international collaborative network in this field, with plenty of opportunities for young and mid-career scientists to present their work alongside established researchers in a wonderful venue in Lisbon. The scientific sessions will cover all levels, from atomic and structural aspects of protein function to organismal responses during development or host-pathogen reactions.

Travel grants and registration fee waivers

Travel grants and registration fee waivers are available for participants.

The organizers handle the selection of awardees directly. EMBO travel grants and registration fee waivers are allocated based on the quality of the submitted abstract.

Applicants do not need to apply separately for these but should indicate on the registration form if they wish to be considered.

Additional travel grants are available for EMBC Associate Member States Chile, India, Singapore and Taiwan.

Special travel grants and registration fee waivers

A limited number of travel grants and registration fee waivers are available for scientists working in Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Poland, Slovenia and Turkey. Grants are allocated based on the quality of the submitted abstract.

A maximum of 700 Euros per participant is available to cover registration fees, travel, and accommodation (no additional subsistence costs can be covered). To apply, please indicate the itemized amount requested in the travel grants section of the registration form.

Child care grants

EMBO Courses and Workshops offers grants to offset additional childcare costs incurred by participants or speakers when participating at any EMBO Courses and Workshop funded meeting. Eligible costs include fees for a caregiver or child-care facility, travel costs for a caregiver, or travel costs for taking the child to the meeting etc. Please indicate on the registration form whether you would like to be considered for the grant. Please also describe how you intend to use the childcare grant and specify the sum that you will need.

Sustainability measures at the meeting

Abstract books and programs will be shared in electronic form only.

We will have water stations at the event where participants can fill their bottles, and the use of bottled water will be minimized.
