Artistic Practices in Prisons
Organized by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in partnership with Acesso Cultura, Artistic Practices in Prisons brought together artists, representatives from prison institutions, and project participants to discuss the challenges, opportunities, and learnings that come from artistic projects within prison environments. Throughout the day, speakers shared experiences and reflections on the impact of these projects and what they can open up for the future.
The event also included the launch of corpoemcadeia: dance, prison and gestalt, a book by Catarina Câmara based on the project of the same name carried out at Linhó Prison.
Over the past decade, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation has supported artistic projects implemented in prisons, recognising their importance in empowering and facilitating the social reintegration of people who are incarcerated.
You can watch (or rewatch) the conference, which aimed to contribute to the sustained implementation of these practices to build a more humanised and qualified prison system.
