Julianknxx (Sierra Leone, 1987, lives and works in London) shares his experience on his first visit to Lisbon, on the occasion of the poetic and participatory performance that he presented with the Gospel Collective choir, at the Open-Air Amphitheatre of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in May 2023. During the artist’s stay in Lisbon, the Gulbenkian Foundation also hosted a screening of the film Black Corporeal (Between this Air), in the Auditorium 3.

Challenging the dominant perspectives on African history and culture, Black Corporeal unfolded into a series of artistic residencies in several European cities. Julianknxx documented his experiences with different local artistic communities, searching for connections between them to raise greater awareness of the African diaspora.
