‘Diana Policarpo. Ciguatera’ is a large-scale installation based on a research trip to the Savage Islands. The title refers to the poisoning that occurs after eating fish contaminated with ciguatoxins.

In this video, Diana Policarpo talks about the ciguatera disease and the mysterious conditions that cause it, starting with toxic algae and going through the entire food chain, affecting only human beings. With this work, the artist aims to bring together the different stories and species that are somehow involved in this cycle.

Ana Botella reflects on how, starting from a very rigorous research process, Diana Policarpo has created an experience that is, on the one hand, very immediate, but which contains several layers and touches on many different themes, such as issues related to ecology.

CAM’s Deputy Director also explains how this installation reflects CAM’s mission, touching on some of the most important challenges of the 21st century, asking questions without being didactic, allowing the public to change their perspectives and reflect, while still being experiential.
