Gulbenkian Prize for Humanity
The Foundation hosted an event with Gulbenkian Prize for Humanity winners and Jury members to learn more about the work of the 2024 Prize winners and their contributions to climate action.
The event featured films, presentations and speeches reflecting on this year’s theme of sustainable agriculture in the context of climate action, and to share insight from the winners’ work.
The conference was split into two panels:
- ‘Agriculture as a Climate Action Accelerator’, moderated by Miguel Bastos Araújo, Vice-President of the Jury, brought together 2024 Prize winners Rattan Lal, Vijay Kumar (representing Andhra Pradesh Community Managed Natural Farming), Helmy Abouleish (SEKEM) and Jury members Sandra Díaz, Hans Schellnhuber and Miguel Arias Cañete to discuss how global food production can be improved for the planet’s benefit.
- ‘Agriculture as a Win-Win: Solutions for Community and Climate’, moderated by Jury member Sunita Narain, comprised of Jury members Carlos Lopes, Rik Leemans and Runa Khan, and speakers Naglaa Ahmed (Egyptian Biodynamic Association) and Nagendramma Nettem (APCNF), to explore holistic approaches to agriculture which support communities to thrive.
Introductory remarks were also given by the Foundation’s Executive Trustee for grant-making, Martin Essayan, and Director of Sustainability, Louisa Hooper.
