Solo
Soil was the starting point for conversations, suggestions, inventions, dreams and desires, all different, as you’d expect from a fertile ground. From there, we invented irrigation channels or levadas, to connect these soils. What was initially a plural idea of soil became a singular, the common ground. What we invented together is made up of people, who in turn are made up of many others together.
Our soil was created through encounters that were as incredible they were simple. One word led to another and “unintentionally”, but with strong desire, we had a text of 24 verses called “A cantiga do não fazer” (the song about not doing anything). One word led to another and we put up an exhibition on the wall. One word led to another and we paraded through the streets. One word led to another and we had an exhibition of islands. One word led to another and we said that a community project for the community is made up of people who are there all the time and those who come at the last minute. Because even those who appear at the end have something to say.
The project was developed as part of ATOS, an initiative of the D. Maria II National Theatre and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
