The film follows The Kid, a talented young man who uses music to escape his abusive situation at home. A member of the band The Revolution, The Kid is the star of the most famous and disputed club in Minneapolis.
When he meets singer Apollonia, The Kid fights not to repeat his father’s abusive patterns, while struggling to keep together his band, threatened by rival musician Morris Day, who wants to take his place.
Part autobiographical, Purple Rain was made to promote the eponymous album, which propelled Prince to the peak of his career: with 25 million copies sold worldwide, it became one of the best-selling albums of all time.
