Madama Butterfly
Opera in three acts
Return to the Met Opera of Anthony Minghella’s historic staging of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. Since its debut at the New York Opera Theatre in the 2006/2007 season, the vision of Minghella (also known as director of The English Patient), based on traditional Japanese theatre, has become an instant classic. The reprise, screened by Gulbenkian Música, sponsors the debut of the conductor Xian Zhang at the Met and features Asmik Grigorian in the demanding role of the leading lady Cio-Cio-San, the same role that revealed her to the world during her time at the Stockholm Royal Opera.
