Dead Man Walking, the creation of composer Jake Heggie, is the most performed new opera of the last 20 years. Based on Sister Helen Prejean’s memoir, about her struggle for the redemption of a man condemned to death, it comes to the Metropolitan Opera in the staging of one of the biggest names in contemporary theatre, Ivo van Hove, featuring the superlative Joyce DiDonato in the title role. The story, which also reached the cinema in an Oscar-winning film by Tim Robbins, has a libretto by Terrence McNally (Tony and Emmy Award winner) and is directed by the famous conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
