Children and young people at risk
Parental Training projects and their impacts (2007-2018) – Anabela Salgueiro, Maria João Leote de Carvalho
In 2007, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation launched the Children and Young People at Risk initiative, which in the first phase (2007-2011) aimed at supporting eight pilot intervention projects for families with children and young people flagged as being at risk or in danger in the municipalities of Amadora, Lisbon, Setúbal and Sintra. More than a decade later, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation revisited the teams and organisations that implemented the projects to understand the outcomes and impact of its support.
This publication collates and summarises not only the impacts of the work carried out in the period of implementation, but also incorporates the results of the more recent follow-up with organisations and teams.
Today we know that the work organisations carry out in the field, together with families, professionals, partners and other relevant stakeholders, had an impact on the national system for the promotion and protection of children and young people and on public child protection policies, in particular through the approval of CAFAP – Centre for Family Support and Parental Counselling by Social Security, and other social responses, in coordination with the organisations involved in the projects.
