O caminho para “Terminal (O Estado do Mundo)”
The Road to the Terminal (The State of the World)
The aim of this project was to explore contrasting territories while emphasising global connections.
Five actions took place during a one-week residency in each city. In “Theatre out of format”, short, surprising scenes popped up in public spaces, questioning the relationship between the climate crisis and the type of society in which we live. They spoke about consumption, mobility, animal husbandry, intensive agriculture, and capitalism.
In “Back to the future”, documentary videos were made about the passage of time, with first-person recollections of places that have disappeared. The aim was to emphasise the transformations caused by human action.
In “Taking over the radio station”, a local radio station was taken over with climate news, playlists from ecologists and activists, tips on sustainable habits, climate advice, scientific forecasts and moments of ecological humour.
The “Environmentalist goes to school” activity organised a talk on sustainability and climate change to learn about young people’s individual habits and choices, while “Who wants to change?” involved distributing a questionnaire to the population for a sociological study on the desire and willingness to change daily habits for the benefit of the planet.
The project was developed as part of ATOS, an initiative of the D. Maria II National Theatre and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
