Within the City
Grândola, Vila Morena has acquired the poetic status of a city that reflects the human greatness that can be found here. A place of liberty, fraternity and equality, even in times of dictatorship. The motto is the spoken word, and music and the visual arts the means of expression.

A series of participatory activities and individual challenges are designed to reconnect people and places.
Most of the time we think of democracy and freedom as things we take for granted. We forget that these values are like carnations: if they are not nurtured, they wither, dry up and die. Reflecting on history and these values, on the little stories behind Grândola’s inspiring symbolism, is more than important: it’s a matter of urgency!
The project was developed as part of ATOS, an initiative of the D. Maria II National Theatre and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
