The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation is a private institution whose main purpose is to improve people’s quality of life through art, charity, science, and education. The Foundation carries out its activities from its headquarters in Lisbon, and from its branches in Paris and London.

We are seeking a Project Manager to join the Partnerships with Africa Programme team, which will ensure project coordination, particularly of the financial component, and the various stages involved until final completion, in accordance with applicable standards, procedures and regulations, while ensuring compliance with deadlines and with the budget, as well as the quality of the activities and initiatives developed.

Contractual conditions: Permanent Employment Contract.

Main Responsibilities

  • Conduct the management and review process of applications for scholarships / grants or other types of support, namely assessing and checking the various eligibility requirements, selecting the panel of evaluators, and preparing reports for the Board of Directors.
  • Ensure the management, monitoring and follow-up, and the continuous assessment of the various projects with external funding and partners, activities and events in progress, with a view to ensuring procedural compliance, and the quality of their development and execution on the ground.
  • Carry out the continuous evaluation of projects, identify possible deviations / areas for improvement, with a view to defining and implementing corrective measures, in order to ensure that all projects are carried out in accordance with previously established quality and financial parameters.
  • Ensure the analysis, validation, and confirmation of information, data, invoices, and documentation pertaining to the development of the various projects, in order to support the management and decision-making processes.
  • Ensure coordination and communication with the various areas and Organizational Units of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, requesting or making available information, data or documents required for the development of activities in other areas or units, in order to assure internal alignment and cohesion.
  • Monitor the execution of various project audits, in particular of those benefiting from external financing, ensuring accountability to external partners, in accordance with the previously defined plan, ensuring that they are carried out in accordance with established standards and procedures.

Required Skills

  • Graduate degree in Financial fields, namely in Accounting and Management;
  • Experience in the field of development cooperation, particularly in financial management of projects (preferable);
  • Experience in Portuguese-speaking Countries in Africa (PALOP) (preferable);
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook);
  • Knowledge of SAP;
  • Good command of written and spoken Portuguese and English language;
  • Good communication and teamwork skills;
  • Excellent initiative, autonomy, and analytical abilities.
