Support for publishers in the publication of original and unpublished works of cultural, artistic, scientific or philosophical interest in the fields of the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, in Portuguese, or translations into Portuguese of works of international reputation.

This call for proposals supports publishers in the publication of original works of cultural and scientific interest in Portuguese, or the translation of key works.

The objectives of the support are:

  • To encourage the circulation of works that reflect original and innovative thinking in the fields of the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, as well as high-quality translation;
  • To encourage publishers’ activity and contribution to an open and inclusive cultural debate;
  • To contribute to the revitalisation of the book market in publishing areas that are less commercially viable.

Conditions

Original and unpublished works of cultural, artistic, scientific or philosophical interest may be submitted in the following fields:

  • Arts (non-fiction);
  • Humanities (non-fiction;
  • Social Sciences (non-fiction);
  • Translation (literature or non-fiction).

Funding will be awarded for one or more of the following stages of book production (print or digital):

  • Copyrights;
  • Proofreading;
  • Translation;
  • Graphic design;
  • Layout;
  • Printing;
  • Finishing.

Funding may cover up to 100% of the total project budget, up to a maximum amount of €10,000.

The results will be announced online by 15 January 2027.


Eligibility

  • Private legal entities, such as commercial companies, cooperatives or associations, whose main corporate purpose and articles of association relate to the editing and publication of books, are eligible to apply for funding (applicant organisations must have been in continuous operation for at least two years);

  • The books must be published within 18 months of the grant being awarded;

  • Each publisher may submit only one application per year;

  • Only online applications in Portuguese will be accepted.

  • Before submitting your application form, please check all the eligibility requirements. We recommend that you read the Regulations (available in the Documents section) and the Frequently Asked Questions (in Portuguese);

  • The application will only be accepted once all the mandatory fields on the form have been completed and the documentation required in the Regulations has been uploaded;

  • Finally, click on the ‘Submit application’ button. To avoid any issues when submitting your application, please do not wait until the last few days of the deadline to submit it.
