The workshop offers participants the opportunity to create small sculptures inspired by the shapes found in oyster ecosystems, which they can then take home. This hands-on experience raises awareness of ocean biomaterials and the surrounding Tagus environment.

This original natural material emerged from a three-month residency as part of the European project Bauhaus of the Sea Sails – “Radical Waters–Concrete Matters”. It is now presented through an installation in the Gulbenkian Garden, next to the south lake.

“If all the bodies we enter into relations with are modified and modify us in turn, then we can no longer delude ourselves that matter is simply a passive object onto which we project our knowledge… Inhabiting the interface affords us the opportunity to redefine our knowledge of matter as a creative and collaborative process in which every material actively participates.” Laura Tripaldi, Parallel Minds: Discovering the Intelligence of Materials.
