Drawing in the Museum: Splendour in Venice

Event Slider

The Museum’s drawing workshops aim to explore questions central to the act of drawing.

In each session, the artist Catarina Dias introduces different themes, from research approached by the artists themselves, themes central to the history of art or the specific characteristics of the work being observed. These themes will serve as inspiration for the act of drawing and for the comprehension of the works of the exhibition ‘Splendour in Venice. From Canaletto to Guardi.’

Programme

The Venice of Guardi and Canaletto

Drawing from observation is a constant exercise in finding solutions for what we see. In this session, we are introduced to Venice in celebratory mode, as seen through the eyes of Guardi and Canaletto. We will observe the various solutions the artists found to portray this city full of ebullient scenes.
Suggested materials: HB, 2B and 6B pencils, graphite stick, charcoal stick (willow) and white dry pastel.
