Bala Funk

Dance Performance and Conversation by Smaïl Kanouté

Event Slider

Capoeira, passinho and voguing are three languages of movement and socio-cultural phenomena that intersect and mutually inspire one another, all of them born in reaction to systems of oppression.

Choreographer Smaïl Kanouté invites two performers of Brazilian descent to this show to explore that legacy of identity and protest and to invent together a new space for celebration and resistance.

Smaïl Kanouté returns to Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation to the world premiere of his new work Bala Funk, a co-produced performance by CAM.
