Choreographer Smaïl Kanouté invites two performers of Brazilian descent to this show to explore that legacy of identity and protest and to invent together a new space for celebration and resistance.
Smaïl Kanouté returns to Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation to the world premiere of his new work Bala Funk, a co-produced performance by CAM.

Smaïl Kanouté
Smail Kanouté is a multifaceted French-Malian artist based in Paris. He belongs to a young generation currently renewing visual codes and aesthetics in all possible disciplines. With Company Vivons! – founded in 2016 – he develops performance projects, more personal choreographic artworks, dance videos and short films. He is currently working on a dance web-docu-series project.

Jhordan Lunarte
Jhordan Lunarte is the guardian of a master tool for promoting the art of Capoeira. Father, dancer, acrobat, performer, movement director, he is a member of the Ballroom afro-diasporic community. He studies the field of psychomotor performance and bodily flow based on movement and knowledge of the ancient art of capoeira. He also develops studies and activities that interlink capoeira and voguing, as part of the multicultural collective Capoeiraparatodes, emancipating minds and seeking refuge through art.

Nala Revlon
Nala Revlon is part of the Iconic House of Revlon and the kiki House of Wang, where she has built her career in European ballroom through major balls and kikis. Her category (]Women’s Performance’ and ‘Female Figure’) has taken her to Paris, London, Berlin and Rio de Janeiro, winning major international prizes. She has organised events associated with ballroom in Portugal, where she intends to stimulate a national ballroom community through classes, debates and balls.
