Floating world: ‘ukiyo-e’ Japanese prints focuses on the concept of ukiyo, which means ‘floating world’, and refers to the fleeting pleasures of everyday life, but also addresses the icons of urban life and the importance of landscape in traditional Japan.

In this guided tour by the curators Jorge Rodrigues, Francesca Neglia and Hannah Sigur get to know the remarkable set of prints amassed by Calouste Gulbenkian produced between the 18th and 19th centuries, that includes renowned artists such as Kitagawa Utamaro, Katsushika Hokusai and Utagawa Hiroshige.
