Bearing in mind the current needs of the cultural sector, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation has decided to support artistic training and creation, individual and collective, across different dimensions.

This initiative, which represents an investment of more than 1 M Euros, is in line with the Foundation’s commitment to support artists and artistic structures, favouring those who are more original and innovative.

For Isabel Mota, the president of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, this support is “an investment in the resumption of work and in our artists’ capacity to create during difficult times, and it is also an incentive to artistic training abroad for youngsters via granting scholarships”.

This support to the artistic sector will be granted through contests in three different areas: scholarships for artistic training abroad in the fields of visual arts, performative arts and music (a total of 600k Euros); support to the creation of original works of art in the fields of visual arts, cinema, dance and theatre (350k Euros); and support for new exhibitions in France (200k Euros) via the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Paris. The applications are open to every Portuguese artist working in national territory and to private non-profit institutions of artistic production.

The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation intends to reach out to a bigger number of artistic agents and respond to the ever-growing multidisciplinarity cultivated by contemporary art.

In addition to this support, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation holds its strategy of annual acquisition of contemporary works of art for the Collection of the Modern Art Centre, which represents a 500k Euros investment during this year.
