Gulbenkian Prize for Humanity

The Andhra Pradesh Community Managed Natural Farming programme (India), soil scientist Rattan Lal (USA/India) and the biodynamic farming initiative SEKEM (Egypt) were jointly awarded the 2024 Gulbenkian Prize for Humanity for their outstanding contributions to sustainable agriculture and climate action. The €1 million Prize will be shared equally among the winners to scale their work.

The winners were announced at the Award Ceremony at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation on 11 July 2024 by President of the Jury and former Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel. Speeches were also given by the President of the Republic of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa; the President of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, António Feijó; and the 2024 winners as they discussed the need for sustainable agriculture as a solution for improved environmental and human wellbeing.
