The programme included a keynote with Marcus Faustini, a Brazilian director, filmmaker and cultural mediator, and two roundtables focused on the different models of participatory art and cultural democracy as a public policy.

The conference also featured the presentation of the publication ATOS – Arte, participação e território and the video-essay Alcanço on the trajectory of ATOS in 2023, which sought to summarise the experience of implementing this programme and bear witness to its journey of promoting cultural democracy.

ATOS is a programme that promotes artistic practices of participation and civic reflection in a close relationship with communities and territories. Created in partnership between the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the D. Maria II National Theatre, as part of the National Odyssey initiative, in 2023 ATOS toured 40 municipalities from the north to the south of mainland Portugal, Madeira and the Azores.
