Scientific Report II: The 10 main blue carbon ecosystems in mainland Portugal
The second volume of the Gulbenkian Blue Carbon project’s scientific report complements and supports the first volume – Scientific Report I: Assessment of blue carbon ecosystems in mainland Portugal – by presenting detailed information, in the form of factsheets, for each of the blue carbon ecosystems studied.
The factsheets include geographical location, types of habitats and the area they occupy, protection statuses, estimates of carbon stocks and sequestration rates, environmental quality, threats to which they are exposed, and conservation interventions implemented in the past, underway or others proposed for the future. Each factsheet concludes with a survey of local stakeholders so that conservation and restoration processes can be set in motion for the systems analysed.
