The book “Pensar o Acolhimento Residencial de Crianças e Jovens” (“Rethinking Residential Child and Youth Care”) details different perspectives on the work developed in recent years by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation on the Portuguese child and youth residential care system, allowing the people and organisations involved to have their say. It includes reflections on lessons learnt, achievements, and challenges , touching on the strategies and methodologies adopted and the mechanisms of supervision implemented, as well as the main outcomes achieved.
Finally, 28 recommendations from this experience are presented. These focus on the changes needed to adopt more effective practices and public policies, founded on the observance of the Rights of the Child in Portugal.
