Trégua

Trégua promotes personal, social, technical and artistic training activities in the field of plastic arts, with a focus on public art. The activities involve inmates from Funchal Prison and students from the University of Madeira who, together, will explore the concepts of ‘limits’ and ‘freedom’ to create a work of public intervention with an artistic and social impact.

This creative result will be realised in the public space and open to the participation of the rest of civil society for the commemorations of International Human Rights Day (December 10th). Besides that, a line of marketable products will be produced subsequently in the Funchal Prison and sold to the outside community, in a Wearable Art strategy that comprises T-shirts and cloth bags (screen printing) and which promotes social and labour (re)integration through art.

The entire process outlined above will be documented so that an alternative format catalogue-fanzine can be produced and distributed to the local community.

Project supported under the 3rd edition of the PARTIS & Art for Change initiative, promoted by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the ‘la Caixa’ Foundation.
