Policy Development Initiative is a capacity-building program for formulating recommendations to guide evidence-based public policy making on sustainable production and consumption, designed for researchers and employees of non-governmental organisations, universities and public administration. The program is spearheaded by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in collaboration with external partners – the International Centre for Policy Advocacy and IES – Social Business School.

It is a 10-month program during which participants attend six workshops and receive thematic and methodological assistance in the research and information gathering activities required for drawing up public policy recommendation documents.

The first edition began in September 2019 with 14 participants researching issues related with food, fisheries, marine resources and energy.

The goal of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in promoting this initiative is to make a positive contribution to debates that inform public policy decision-making processes, equipping people with experience and knowledge on the transition to more sustainable production and consumption patterns with the skills to influence public policy making.
