Immigration Platform
Launched in November 2006, the Platform on Immigrant Hosting and Integration Policies (Immigration Platform) functions as a means of intervening directly or indirectly in migrant integration in Portugal. The platform relies on the joint efforts of diverse civil society institutions such as foundations, employer associations, religious communities and members of the Economic and Social Council.
The central objective of the Platform is to demonstrate that an organised civil society can be more effective in facilitating integration and promoting a society that is more tolerant and respectful of human rights.
Distinction of Best Practice in Local Government
Since 2007 the Immigration Platform has awarded an annual prize to the local government or council demonstrating the best immigrant integration practices in the year preceding the award.
The award is given to the council who through original and innovative projects and methods gives the greatest support to migrants in settling in to the municipality. The prize will be awarded annually for a period of 5 years.
Immigrant Entrepreneur of the Year
The Immigration Platform’s “Immigrant Entrepreneur” Prize is awarded to the immigrant who best displays entrepreneurship and social responsibility in Portuguese society, thereby providing an example of proactive and innovative integration.
The award distinguishes persistence, risk taking and dedication to a challenge, be it in founding a new company or introducing new and creative processes, products or services that enhance the companies they work in and, if possible, contribute to stimulating cooperation between Portugal and their country of origin. Launched in 2007, the prize will be awarded annually for a period of 5 years.
