CARE is a specialised support network for children and young people who are victims of sexual violence, their families and friends. This network focuses mainly on providing psychological and legal support, and acting as a link between the various entities involved in these processes.

This national network (which encompasses the Azores and Madeira archipelagos), is coordinated by the Portuguese Association for Victim Support (APAV), in partnership with the criminal police – who identify and refer cases -, and with the Portuguese National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences – which conducts an expert assessment of the victims.

The network has help 1,167 children and young people since its inception. More than 700 awareness-raising campaigns have also been held, involving more than 16,000 beneficiaries and 44 training courses attended by 440 trainees.
