Nuno Vassallo e Silva graduated in History (History of Art elective), received his PhD in History of Art from the Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra. Also graduated in the Getty Leadership Institute/ Claremont Graduate University.

Formerly deputy Director of the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum, Conservator at the S. Roque Museum, served as General-Director of Cultural Heritage and Secretary of State for Culture in the 20th Portuguese Constitutional Government. He is an academic-correspondent of the Portuguese Academy of History.

Author of several studies and exhibitions on Portuguese art and artistic relations with Asia during the Discovery Period, received, in 2013, the Dr. José de Figueiredo Award from the National Academy of Fine Arts of Lisbon.
