New support for participatory art projects

The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the "la Caixa" Foundation, in collaboration with BPI, are promoting the third edition of the PARTIS & Art for Change initiative, with more than one million euros to support participatory art projects in Portugal. Applications open 4 July.
02 jul 2024

This will be the third edition of the initiative created in 2020 to support projects that promote access, participation and co-creation and that simultaneously bring together social transformation objectives and artistic practices (visual, performing and audiovisual arts as well as transdisciplinary approaches).

Applications are open for legally recognised public or private non-profit organisations based in Portugal presenting innovative projects in the field of art and participation.

In this edition, up to 15 projects will be supported with a maximum of 30,000 euros/year in the pilot phase (from January to December 2025), aimed at co-creating and strengthening the projects’ strategic partnerships. Once the pilot year is over and the progress has been analysed, the 10 projects that best align with the principles of the initiative will be selected to continue for an additional 24 months, with an annual support of up to 35,000 euros.

Projects taking place outside the Lisbon and Porto metropolitan areas will also benefit from additional funding, in an effort to promote this type of initiative beyond the country’s major urban areas and to extend support to territories that tend to be less accessible.

Applications are open until 12:00 on 12 September.

An online session will be held on 5 July at 11:00 to answer any questions regarding applications.

About the PARTIS & Art for Change initiative

The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation is an international institution, based in Portugal, which promotes the development of people and organisations through art, science, education and charity, to create a more equitable and sustainable society.

In 2018, the “la Caixa” Foundation began operating in Portugal, as a result of BPI joining the CaixaBank group. In 2024, it will allocate 50 million euros to various social, research, educational, cultural and scientific projects.

Taking into account their common objectives as well as the synergies in their lines of action, the two foundations have decided to join forces to launch a joint initiative in 2020, called “PARTIS & Art for Change“, as well as to consolidate a Community of Practice in the fields of Arts and Communities in Portuguese territory.
