Modern Collection Building to close for refurbishment
From 1 August 2020, the building housing the Modern Collection of the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum will close for renovation.
The building will reopen in the first quarter of 2022 with its exteriors entirely renovated, new points of access, a new crossing route (enabling the connection between the northern and the new southern section of the garden) and a new exhibition area. This intervention by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma in association with the landscape architect Vladimir Djurovic, which won the architecture contest in 2019, will open up the entire former Santa Gertrudes Park to the city.
Throughout this period, exhibitions shall continue to be held in the Founder’s Collection and Main Building galleries.
