Installation of 1,850 Solar Panels
Gulbenkian Foundation saves 15% of its annual electricity consumption through photovoltaic panels installed on the roofs of the Museum, the Grand Auditorium and the Main Building.
The project began in December 2024 and lasted seven months. A total of 3,785 square metres of photovoltaic panels were installed on the roofs of the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum, the Grand Auditorium, and the Foundation’s Headquarters Building – the equivalent of more than half an official football pitch.
To prevent any risk of infiltration, all these roofs were waterproofed before the installation of the supporting structures for the solar panels.
For just over six months now, solar energy has been produced continuously and in a stabilised manner.
Estimates indicate that the energy generated will amount to around 15% of the Gulbenkian Foundation’s total annual electricity consumption.
